Nominations Due to VFW Post 4190 by December 15, 2026


VFW Post 4190 proudly participates in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Public Servant Award Program, recognizing exceptional individuals who dedicate their careers to protecting and serving others. Through this program, the VFW honors outstanding Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, 911 Dispatchers, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians who demonstrate professionalism, leadership, and commitment to their communities.

These awards provide an opportunity to recognize local heroes whose service often goes unnoticed while highlighting the important role they play in keeping our communities safe.

 

Public Servant Entry Form The official entry form contains complete nomination instructions, eligibility requirements, judging criteria, and a checklist of all required supporting documentation.

 

Eligible Categories

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Recognizes individuals who actively provide emergency medical treatment, rescue services, or disaster assistance as members of public or volunteer emergency medical organizations.


Law Enforcement

Recognizes municipal, county, state, or federal law enforcement personnel who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their communities. Private security personnel are not eligible.


Firefighter

Recognizes individuals who actively fight fires and provide emergency assistance as members of public or volunteer fire departments.


911 Dispatcher Public Servant

Recognizes emergency communications professionals who serve as the critical first link between the public and emergency responders. Dispatchers demonstrate exceptional professionalism, calm under pressure, and dedication while coordinating emergency response efforts and helping save lives through effective communication and decision-making.


Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician Public Servant

Recognizes military or civilian Explosive Ordnance Disposal professionals who safely identify, render safe, and dispose of explosive hazards. These highly trained professionals perform dangerous and demanding duties that protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

 

 

Award Criteria

These awards recognize individuals who consistently go above and beyond in service to their communities and exemplify the highest standards of their profession.Nominees should demonstrate:

  • Recognition by their colleagues or the citizens they serve.
  • Consistent excellence in the performance of their duties.
  • Dedication to their profession over a period of years.
  • Continuous growth in responsibility, leadership, and professional skills.

 

Who May Submit a Nomination?

Nominations may be submitted by Supervisors, Co-workers, Community leaders, Veterans, Members of the public, VFW and Auxiliary members. Anyone familiar with the nominee's service and accomplishments is encouraged to submit a nomination.

 

How to Participate

  1. Download the Public Servant Entry Form.
  2. Review the eligibility requirements, nomination criteria, and required supporting documentation contained in the form.
  3. Complete the nomination package and gather all required materials.
  4. Submit the completed nomination package to VFW Post 4190 by December 15, 2026.
  5. Post-level winners may advance for Department of Alabama judging and national consideration
