Welcome to VFW Post 4190 – Lanier-Hine Post
Founded in 1946, VFW Post 4190 – Lanier-Hine Post has proudly served veterans, military families, and the Decatur community for generations. Established in the years following World War II, the Post was created by combat veterans who understood the importance of fellowship, service, patriotism, and continuing to support one another after returning home from war.
Located in Decatur, Alabama, the Post became a gathering place for veterans who served overseas in defense of our nation. Over the decades, membership has grown to include veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Global War on Terror. Through every generation, the mission of the Post has remained the same: to honor the sacrifices of veterans, support those still serving, and strengthen the community through service and leadership.
The name "Lanier-Hine” reflects the proud tradition within the Veterans of Foreign Wars of honoring local servicemen whose legacy continues through the Post and its members. While much of the early history of the Post exists through the memories and records of longtime members, the spirit of service established by those early veterans continues to guide Post 4190 today.
Throughout its history, Post 4190 has played an active role in supporting veterans and promoting patriotism across Morgan County and North Alabama. The Post has long been involved in memorial ceremonies, veterans advocacy, youth education programs, scholarship competitions, and community service projects designed to strengthen both the veteran community and the nation’s future generations.
Today, Post 4190 continues to honor that legacy through a wide range of programs and events. Members actively participate in:
Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies
Roselawn Cemetery flag placement and maintenance
Wreaths Across America
Veteran outreach and assistance programs
Loyalty Day celebrations
Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen youth scholarship programs
Scout of the Year and Teacher of the Year recognition
Public Servant of the Year recognition
Community service projects and fundraising efforts supporting veterans and local families
The Post has also become known as a place where veterans from all generations can gather in comradeship, continue serving their community, and preserve the traditions and values of military service for future generations.
As VFW Post 4190 looks toward the future, the mission remains rooted in the principles established in 1946: service, remembrance, patriotism, and unwavering support for veterans, their families, and the community we proudly serve.
