SCOUT OF THE YEAR

 

Recognizing Leadership, Service, and Citizenship
 
Application Deadline: March 1, 2027

VFW Post 4190 proudly participates in the VFW Scout of the Year Program, which recognizes exceptional young men and women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, citizenship, patriotism, and community service through Scouting.

Scouting develops future leaders by instilling character, responsibility, service to others, and a commitment to community. Through the Scout of the Year Program, the VFW honors Scouts whose accomplishments reflect the values that have strengthened America for generations.
 
How to Participate
Applicants must download and carefully review the Scout of the Year Entry Form for complete eligibility requirements, submission instructions, and judging criteria ensuring to highlight their achievements, leadership, and service.

Application packets should include information regarding:
  • Leadership positions held within Scouting
  • Community service projects
  • Citizenship and patriotism activities
  • School and extracurricular achievements
  • Personal accomplishments and awards

Completed application packets must be received by March 1, 2027 and may be submitted to: VFW Post 4190, 2309 Veterans Drive SE, Decatur, AL 35601

Scholarship Awards & Recognition
Outstanding Scouts have the opportunity to earn scholarship awards and recognition at multiple levels of competition, beginning with VFW Post 4190 and advancing through:
  • VFW Post 4190
  • VFW District 1
  • VFW Department of Alabama
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars National Competition

As Scouts advance through each level, additional scholarship opportunities and recognition become available. National Scout of the Year winners receive scholarships of:
  • First Place: $5,000 Scholarship
  • Second Place: $3,000 Scholarship
  • Third Place: $1,000 Scholarship

  

Eligibility
Applicants should demonstrate outstanding leadership, citizenship, community involvement, and service through their Scouting activities and achievements. Eligible applicants must be registered members of one of the following organizations:
  • Scouts BSA
  • Venturing Crews
  • Sea Scouts
  • Girl Scouts USA
